Howrah-Kalka Express derailment: PM mourns

Howrah-Kalka Express train, hauling about 1,000 passengers, was leap for Kalka and was travelling at 108 Km/Hour when it went off the rails at Malwa station in Fatehpur, about 150 km from Lucknow district of Uttar Pradesh

At least 20 people were killed and more than 100 injured Sunday noon. Minister of State for Railways Mukul Roy on Sunday inquired the Railway Board to give payments of Rs 5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh to families of those killed and injured in the Howrah-Kalka Express derailment. He also said Help lines were already operating in Howrah and other stations to provide the necessary information. 

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh articulated grief at the loss of lives in a rail accident. . A statement from the PMO said, “The Prime Minister has expressed deep sorrow and shock at the loss of lives caused by the accident at Malwa station involving the Kalka Mail.”
